One of the most innovative features of the Black Shark 4 Pro is a pair of magnetic triggers on the side of the body. With a gentle press of two side buttons, the magnetic triggers pop up, giving you responsive and satisfying tactile control for your gaming needs. With these triggers, there’s no need to buy game controller conversion devices like gamevice for a better gaming experience on your mobile.

Triggers can also be used for other functions like turning flashlight on and off, freeing up RAM, recording audio, taking screenshots, screen recording , etc. We like how easy it was to operate and release the two triggers. However, this also came with a downside – the buttons are a bit too sensitive and the bottom trigger accidentally activates easily when you take your phone out of your pocket.

Here are some test photos taken with the rear camera:

Design-wise, the haptics, from the mechanical triggers to the fingerprint sensor on the side that doubles as the power button, are all absolutely fantastic. I really dig the side fingerprint sensor because of the need to wear masks all the time due to covid, which makes it very difficult to unlock your phone with your face ID. The physical biometric sensor on the on-screen ultrasound is also much more sensitive and intuitive, making it easier to unlock your phone.

Shark Space App

Technical details aside, the Black Shark 4 Pro comes with a proprietary Space Shark app and an anime digital assistant, Shark Chan. The former lets you jump into game mode for uninterrupted gameplay and optimizes your hardware while the latter is the equivalent of your Siri on iPhone, but with more anime characterization.

I really like the back design of the phone. The hexagonal rear camera unit looks sharp and there’s a triangular LED indicator underneath which is used to signal incoming calls, notifications and other prompts. Black Shark lets you customize the color, rhythm and behavior of the LED in the settings. These features are more aesthetic than functional, but they increase the cool factor of the Black Shark 4 Pro as a gaming phone.

The cooler weighs 73g and is well designed to look like something out of a sci-fi movie. You attach it to the back of your Black Shark 4 Pro phone with a piece of adhesive magnetic foil which you can then easily stick and remove the cooler on.
