Amid India-China deadlock, these Indian phone brands are making a comeback
Micromax, Karbonn and Lava are preparing to make a comeback in the Indian smartphone market amid growing anti-Chinese sentiments in the country over the India-China border dispute. All three brands have either confirmed the launch of new devices in the country next month or have hinted at their imminent arrival on the market again.
The Indian smartphone market is currently dominated by Chinese smartphones. Samsung, Google, and Apple are the only major brands in the country that aren’t Chinese. At one point, Micromax, Karbonn, and Lava were big names in the Indian smartphone market, but they’re no longer in the spotlight, at least right now. Here is what we know about the new handles of the three brands:
Micromax: Three new smartphones to come
Micromax’s official Twitter account, while responding to a user’s tweet, said the company was “working hard” and would soon “come up with something big.” Responding to another user, he said that Micromax is in the process of preparing a “device with premium features” which will also be economical.
A report of Gadgets360 says Micromax will launch three new smartphones in India, including a budget phone with premium features. All of these phones will be under 10,000 rupees and unveiled via soft launches. Notably, Micromax has already sold famous Chinese phones. The company’s latest phone was iOne Note which went on sale in October of last year.
Karbonn: Launch of two new smartphones
Karbonn has been making multifunction phones for some time now, however, the company appears poised to re-enter smartphone territory. Sashin Devsarre, Executive Director of Karbonn Mobiles said The mobile Indian in an interview that the company will launch two new smartphones in the country in August. These two prices are said to be less than 10,000 rupees.
Devsarre also confirmed the launch of a Karbonn smartwatch as well as other connected devices, some of which “have not been launched in India by any other brand”. Devsarre also said Karbonn is working on its phone software to make it robust and secure by adding an “extra layer of security to prevent data leaks.” He also said that the Karbonn UI will not have any ads.
