2022 Honda Passport gets more than $ 5,000 in price increase

Honda has made many changes to the passport for the 2022 model year. The two-row midsize SUV arrives with a more rugged design, a reworked lineup and a new TrailSport trim. The changes translate to a much higher starting point than last year, as the price of the 2022 Honda Passport increased by $ 5,080.

The main reason for this increase is the revised 2022 Passport lineup. The Passport will be available in EX-L, TrailSport and Elite versions. Compared to last year, Honda got rid of the entry-level Sport and Mid-size Touring versions. Last year, Sport started at $ 34,015 (with destination), while the EX-L version of Passport 2022 starts at $ 39,095. Comparing last year’s EX-L trim to that of the 2022 model reveals a price increase of $ 1,060. It’s not a small amount, but it’s more in line with what we expected to see for an update. The top-of-the-line Elite costs $ 46,665, which is $ 1,260 more than last year.

For the money, buyers get a sturdier passport. The mid-size SUV features a new hood, updated grille, revised front bumper, and updated front fenders. At the rear of the SUV, the Passport now sports an updated rear bumper and larger tailpipes. The interior gets a modest upgrade with a revised dashboard and instrument cluster.

We suspect that Honda ditched the Sport version last year, as it likely discovered that many consumers were buying the EX-L. For 2022, the EX-L continues to be the linchpin of the lineup, with leather upholstery, power sunroof, 20-inch alloy rims, power tailgate, blind spot monitoring and sensors. parking. All passports continue to be equipped with an eight-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

The Passport is still equipped with a 3.5-liter V6 engine that delivers 280 horsepower and 262 pound-feet of torque. Front-wheel drive is standard on the EX-L, but not on the TrailSport and Elite. A nine-speed automatic transmission is standard with the Passport.

We’ve seen Honda do something similar with the 2022 Pilot. The other mid-size SUV, available with three rows of seats, saw the previous entry-level LX trim replaced with a new Sport trim. The change resulted in a price increase of $ 4,280, bringing the starting price of the 2022 Pilot to $ 38,055. While the Passport and Pilot share many of the same components and features, the two-row Passport costs $ 1,040 more.

This could throw some passengers for a loop. The Pilot is the most versatile choice, as it has three rows of seats and is almost as well equipped with an eight-inch touchscreen, smartphone compatibility, HondaSensing suite of safety features, blind spot monitoring, an automatic three-zone system. air conditioning and heated front seats. For most people, the Pilot’s lower price tag and its third row of seats make it a better option. However, consumers interested in off-roading and wanting a more rugged design will find the Passport to be a great fit.
